Our Pre-School Morning Sessions
9:00am to 12:00pm | For children aged 2 to 3 years
Our morning sessions provide a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, explore, and grow through play.
Children arrive at 9:00am and, with support from staff, self-register using their personalised name card. Their name card picture is also displayed on their individual coat peg and bag space, helping to develop independence and a sense of belonging.
Each day, children are encouraged to explore our carefully planned indoor learning environment. Activities are tailored to reflect both our weekly learning themes and the interests and developmental needs of the children attending.
During the morning, we come together for a short group session on the carpet. This includes singing our welcome song, talking about the day of the week, identifying our colour bus group, and enjoying number songs that support early mathematical development. We also discuss topics such as the weather, special events or what we have had for breakfast, helping children to build confidence and develop children's early oracy skills.
Children then enjoy a balance of independent play and adult-led activities linked to our weekly planning. Activities may include painting, playdough, creative crafts, sorting games, construction, and sensory experiences.
Outdoor learning is a key part of our day. Weather permitting, children have access to our secure outdoor area, which includes the following:
- Tricycles, cars and transport toys
- Role-play areas
- A climbing frame
- Sand and water play
- A mud kitchen
Throughout the morning, children are offered a healthy snack of fresh fruit, along with milk or water. Families may send a named drinks bottle too. To support our healthy eating policy, we kindly ask that no additional food is brought into the setting.
At around 11:30am, children help to tidy away resources before gathering for a final carpet session. This is an opportunity to reflect on the morning's learning, enjoy stories and nursery rhymes, and take part in singing and counting activities.
At 11:55am, children collect their belongings, prepare to go home, and join in with our special leaving song. The session ends at 12:00pm, with children being collected individually from the gate by a member of staff.
For children's comfort and wellbeing, staff regularly encourage toilet-trained children to use the toilet and are always available to provide support. Nappies and pull-ups can be changed when required. Please ensure your child's bag contains any necessary nappies, wipes, and spare clothing, and that all belongings are clearly named.
Our Wraparound Afternoon Sessions
12:00pm to 3:00pm | For children aged 3 to 4 years
Our wraparound provision extends the learning and enjoyment of the morning session, providing children with further opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, and academically in a familiar and supportive environment.
Children can enjoy either a school lunch, available at an additional cost, or a packed lunch brought from home in a clearly named lunchbox. As a nut-free school, we kindly ask families to avoid including any nut products.
Following lunch, children are registered and take part in counting activities, helping them develop their early mathematical skills by counting and identifying the number of children present.
Weather permitting, children enjoy outdoor play before coming together for a group learning session. These activities are linked directly to the week's learning theme and complement the experiences taking place within our Nursery provision.
Children then access a range of engaging indoor activities and resources, while also taking part in focused adult-led tasks designed to support the development of fine and gross motor skills. These may include painting, colouring, cutting, sticking, mark-making, and other creative activities.
During the afternoon, children are offered a healthy fruit snack along with water or milk. The session concludes with a shared story before home time.
Children can be collected at 3:00pm, or 3:30pm for an additional charge. Some children also choose to continue their day at Willows, our after-school club.
At our Pre-School, we are committed to creating a happy, safe and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, develops confidence, and is encouraged to become an enthusiastic and independent learner.
